Haven’t you all heard how expensive it is to have a proper diet like the celebrities? That’s all made up! Actually, eating healthy isn’t as pricey as it is made out to be by the industry. What’s the only expensive thing about a proper diet? When you have cheat days with processed junk food! Barring that, the price of being healthy isn’t high at all. Plenty of good food is actually cheap. We list out quick tricks to healthy eating, even when you are on a budget!

Keep it simple

The easiest (and cheapest) way to ensure a healthy diet is to have basic simple food. You can start eating clean with simple foods like fresh fruit and vegetables, lean protein and healthy fats. You don’t need to line up for the health aisle of your local supermarket. Just shop with some idea of simple fresh items, and as far away from processed food, and you’ll be good to go.

Shopping in season is the best reason

If you go out and buy mangoes in the month of November, it is obviously going to pinch your pocket. Keeping aside occasional splurges on Kiwi (just because you wanted to) and other expensive fruits and veggies, you should shop for fresh produce which is in great supply that season. Want a cheaper bargain? Head to the local farmers’ market! It is usually cheaper than buying in small quantities from a retailer or a big grocery shop.

Don’t be penny wise, pound foolish. Buy in bulk!

Planning your meals has advantages. You can shop all at once for a whole week, and even more if you focus. You can buy in bulk, cook in bulk and then refrigerate the food to be enjoyed later when the hunger pangs kick in. Buying in bulk will help you take advantage of savings and also lets you save some time from going out grocery shopping every evening.

Head to the free app section!

Don’t want to spend on expensive gyms and trainers? Or just don’t have the time? You can try out one of the million dieting and exercising apps and tutorials available on the internet. They are usually free but be sure to examine their veracity before you commit. Most good and authentic trainers post their videos online for the subscribers. So, subscribe in bulk too!

Don’t give in to temptation

We understand it is very easy to stop at your local burger place and indulge. But don’t sin when you are on a budget. Eating junk food not only slows your digestion and your quest for good health, it is also very expensive. Trust us, eat in and your wallet will thank you. If you are feeling lazy or cannot go out to shop, get your produce delivered with Peapod or Fresh Direct. The Internet is amazing, isn’t it?

Cook often and learn how to use leftovers

Once you get into the groove of cooking regularly, you realize it is both cheap and therapeutic! Stop splurging on chicken nuggets and pizza pockets, or frozen dinners and prepackaged meals. Plus, when you cook, make sure you have enough for another meal. Don’t be afraid of batch-cooking. Make a gallon of your favorite sauce and freeze it for some time (and money-saving) tip.

Grow your own produce!

Gardening is one of the best ways to save money on groceries. Growing a few herbs or vegetables can save you time, money and ensure you stay on a budget. Chard, Kale, Collards are super easy to grow. You can practice container and bucket gardening if you lack the space for an outdoor garden.

Eating healthy on a budget is absolutely doable. With these tips, you’ll be ready to stay fit and rich in 2020.
