Flowers can brighten up anyone’s day and with Valentine’s Day being just around the corner, it’s an ideal way to shower the special people in your life with affection. However, depending on how much you want to impress them, it can burn a hole in your pocket. In the US, a recent survey conducted by the National Retail Federation showed that Americans will spend an average of $142.31 (AED 523) on Valentine’s Day gifts such as flowers and candy. The survey also estimated that this year the total spend on Valentine’s Day may go up to $18.9 billion.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day in the UAE can also be an expensive affair especially if you’re  looking to go all out. Flower shops offer extravagant gifts such as 1,000 plus flower arrangements and “a room full of roses” for prices ranging from AED 5,443 to AED 15,250.

If you prefer to express your appreciation for your loved one a little less lavishly, you can surprise them with a nice flower arrangement that you think they’ll like. Depending on your preference, flower arrangements can also include additional items such as vases, teddy bears and chocolates.

Keep in mind that not all stores will make the delivery on the 14th of February due to order backlogs. So if you haven’t yet placed your order, you may be limited to a few stores that will deliver your online bouquet purchases on the day! Also, remember that some stores will only deliver flowers to selected areas during Valentine’s Day.

If you’d like to be a little bit more creative with your Valentine’s Day gifts, consider alternatives to the traditional flower arrangements. Some stores in the UAE offer edible flower bouquets made of fresh fruits and chocolates. You could also look at gift hampers available from some flower and gift shops and have them personalised for your recipient.
