Speed limits decrease by 10 Km/H on UAE major roads

Speed limits are to be reduced to 110km per hour on Dubai’s top major roads to decrease the number of accidents and improve road safety. The decision to slow down drivers on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road came after multiple in-depth traffic studies and analysis. The new speed decrease will be effective October 15.  In a joint operation between Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority, it was found that both highways had the highest congestion across the Emirate and had become hotspots for accidents and collisions.

In the first six months of 2017, six people lost their lives and 78 more were injured in 99 accidents on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The previous year saw 33 deaths and 249 injuries as a result of 196 accidents on the same stretch of road. Emirates Road has always been a pitfall of road accidents as well and suffered similar rates.During the first half of 2017, there were 10 road deaths and 75 injuries resulting from 40 accidents. In 2016, Emirates Road was the scene of 86 accidents in total that caused 29 deaths and 147 injuries.

Now, You can keep impounded vehicles at your home in Sharjah

Sharjah motorists now might keep their vehicles seized on their property instead of police-designated impounding yards. Sharjah Police last Wednesday rolled out the new service informing residents that for that vehicles with traffic law violations can now spend their impoundment period on the owner’s premises. A small tracking device will be installed on the vehicle linked to the police server to inform them when and if the vehicle has been moved or used. The move is considered to be of convenience to motorists cutting time on visits to impoundments zones for added administrative paperwork. On the other hand, the police could make better use of the allocated zones helping them better utilize the asset and cutting costs in the process.
