If you’re flying out of Dubai on 20 December make sure you take advantage of the Dubai Duty Free discount.

To mark their 31st anniversary, there will be a 25 percent discount from at midnight on 19 December until midnight on 20 December 2014.

It’s available for all departing, arriving and transiting flyers at Dubai International Airport and at Al Maktoum International Airport – Dubai World Central.

From experience, the sales are not always well signposted – I only found out at the till that there was a 25 percent discount during Eid – so be sure to ask if the items you want to buy are discounted.

It may be a good way to spend the extra time you should allow in what Emirates Airlines says is the busiest week of 201 in Dubai – allow three hours for check-in and extra time to get to the airport too.

If you miss the sale day, the Amex Dubai Duty Free card will also give you 10 percent discount at all times.

Last year, Dubai Duty Free celebrated its 30th anniversary with a whopping 30 percent discount and rang up a daily sales record of AED 112m (US $31m).

The anniversary discount offer began back in 2003 on their 20th anniversary.

PS A quick checklist before you travel – don’t forget to take your health insurance details with you, get travel insurance and check whether you get air miles or airport lounge access with your credit card.
