Unless you have been living under a rock, you are probably aware that free internet calling services such as Apple’s FaceTime, Google Duo and WhatsApp calling have long been banned in the UAE, with Skype joining the list just last year. But that does not stop people from looking for alternatives since the benefits of internet calling, like unlimited voice and video calls to friends and family anywhere in the world, are hard to ignore – even if they come at a cost.

Presently, only two telecom providers – Du and Etisalat – offer paid internet calling services to the citizens of the UAE via certain supported applications. Here’s all you need to know about the plans and how you can subscribe:

Plans

Etisalat and Du offer two types of internet calling plans to their subscribers:

• Internet calling pack for mobile: If you have a postpaid or pre-paid connection, you can subscribe to this plan at AED 50/month (+VAT) to make calls on your mobile data package.

• Internet calling plan for home: If you have a Etisalat or Du Wi-Fi connection, you can subscribe to this plan at AED 100/month (+VAT) to make calls on multiple devices using your home internet connection.
